Dealing with the Dead in a Pandemic Context While the increase in the number of people affected by the Covid-19 virus and the number of deaths have drawn the attention of experts to the organisation of medical institutions and mourning processes, the relatively marginal professional world (Trompette & Caroly, 2004) of funeral directors has rarely been at the centre of these concerns. Based on an observational study during the second wave of the pandemic in the heart of a funeral Centre in Geneva, this paper aims to describe the impacts of the restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic on the daily work of these professionals. How did these professionals negotiate a workspace between the fear of being infected and their role as interface between the living and the dead; between restrictions and health precautions concerning the care of the body and the expectations of the families regarding a dignified treatment of the deceased?
